Cheshire East & Knutsford Lions – thank you!

Hosts 6The Knutsford Hosts is run by volunteers for volunteers as a Community Association. Our overheads are minimal thanks to the generosity of individuals and some local businesses who support us in various ways.

One main cost is that of ensuring we hold Public Liability Insurance so Hosts are protected. And thanks to the Knutsford and District Lions Club, that insurance has been renewed for another 12 months.

Another main cost is that of manufacturing our pin badges which are presented to new Hosts at our welcome events. Thanks to a Cheshire East Council Community Grant we have been able to commission a new batch.

Town Mayor welcomes new Hosts

Our first welcome event of 2016 saw the Knutsford Town Mayor, Cllr Tony Dean, present badges to the new Hosts. A packed Town Council meeting room enjoyed a glass of wine, courtesy of Sarah Flannery, and heard about the projects we have been asked to support during the first few months of the year.
As ever, the Hosts showed how keen they are to help and signed up to help a variety of causes and organisations from Tabley House to the Clean for the Queen litter picks.

Community spirit is alive

Hosts 1I WOULD like to say the biggest, most heartfelt ‘thank you’ to the wonderful Knutsford hosts for their massive contribution to Knutsford this year.

We now have more than 60 hosts and they give their time and skills selflessly.

Come rain or shine, they have contributed well over 1,800 hours of voluntary time to both promote this wonderful town and to support the activities and groups that are the backbone of our community life. Continue reading

Hosts 4KNUTSFORD came together on Christmas Day to help provide a special festive meal for residents.

Knutsford Lions have held the annual dinner for those who living on their own for the past 30 years.

The Lions were supported by the Knutsford Hosts at this year’s dinner, with Cllr Tony Dean, Mayor of Knutsford, also popping in to visit.

The Lions said: “Once again we provided lunch for about 40 people who would otherwise have been on their own on Christmas Day. We are particularly grateful to the volunteers who helped with the preparation and serving of food, entertaining and taxiing of our guests.”

In the run up to Christmas

In the run up to Christmas 2015 the Hosts were busy helping Knutsford and District Lions with their annual street collection, supporting the Town Council at the annual Christmas Market and the Tatton Yule Yomp.
We also found time for a festive get together for a drink in the Lord Eldon.

Tabley House hosts Welcome Event

The Knutsford Hosts were honoured to have David Briggs, the Lord Lieutenant of Cheshire present Knutsford Hosts badges to the new hosts at our welcome event at the splendid Tabley House.

After the event David said:

“I am delighted to support Knutsford Hosts. For me this is an outstanding example of real community spirit. Local people do not give money but, often more importantly, they give of their time and their skill to help others.  On Thursday evening I was so impressed as many local people agreed to either help to preserve the many treasures at Tabley Hall or to give of their time to improve the experience of visitors to the Hall. Thanks from CAFT

Hosts 5“A huge THANK YOU to all the wonderful people who made our 2015 Open Day such a brilliant success! We do hope you enjoyed being involved? Your support is so much appreciated by everyone here at CAFT.

“We welcomed hundreds of guests along including our fantastic Patrons John and Mel Bishop, Jason and Catherine Manford, Lee and Jenny Boardman and also special guest John Thomson, along with mascots from MUFC, MCFC!

“A dry and warm day meant that all the activities, stands and entertainment could proceed as planned. So many companies, organisations and individuals lent their time to help make the event possible – donating financial and in-kind support, manning a stand, running an activity, helping with the difficult task of traffic control and parking, cooking on the BBQ etc. etc. etc.! It really was the perfect example of a giant team effort!

“A staggering £5500 was raised, which is an amazing result and will help so much with our work with children in need.”
